What is a Fan Track?

Is that when we all lie in the floor in a row and form a living red carpet for Leonard Nimoy?

But seriosly, is a Fan Track like a series of panel-type things that all relate to a certain subject? When you join one, are all the panels taking place in different rooms throughout the con, or are they all in the same basic area? Would it be more fun to attend one of these and go to all the panels, or would I have more fun if I didn't obligate to attend these, and just wander around the con aimlessly, doing whatever I feel like at the time?

No. :)

But seriously, is a Fan Track like a series of panel-type things that all relate to a certain subject?
More or less that is correct.
Some in different rooms and not necessarily the same area. Obligation is not required so pick and choose what you want to attend. Wandering aimlessly is one of my passions so I hope you find me.

Also, don't forget to visit http://dragoncon.org/ on August 24th to download the pocket program schedule, and use a highlighter to map your days out so that there won't be any conflicts (there always are).

A listing of all the fan tracks can be found here...

http://dragoncon.org/fan_tracks.php

You can feel free to attend any panel in any track.  No need to stick to one or two.

It's often helpful to check out the websites, blogs and Live Journals that many of the tracks maintain if you want to know more details about what they are planning each years.  Many also have their own email lists or forums so you can get involved early in the planning process to share ideas or get on some of the panels.

I'm looking forward to being on panels this year in the American Scifi Media track, the Whedon Universe track and the Podcasting track.

Hey Kevin,
I'm a new addition to the forum, but I've attended the con for many, many years;  I was curious if any of the American Scifi Media tracks that you're participating in are the same ones that my friend, James Palmer, is going to be on...?

I'll be at the forum "Meet and Greet", but I'd like to see you at some of the Scifi track panels if I can.

Welcome to the forums and looking forward to seeing you at the con.

I'm still hoping to make it to our 'meet and greet'.  I've got some podcasting planning tasks that might keep me away but it's too early to tell.

I don't believe I'm going to be on any of the panels with James.

Here are the panels that I'm scheduled to be on this year...

Fri 2:30pm - Is Mainstream Media dying? - American Scifi Media
Fri 4pm - City of Angels - Whedon Universe
Fri 7pm - ScapeCast LIVE - Podcasting
Sat 1pm - Signal LIVE - Podcasting
Sun 5:30pm - Life in the Dollhouse - Whedon Universe
Mon 2:30pm - Legend of the Seeker: The truth shall lead the way  - American Scifi Media
