- This year is the last DragonCon Parade. - July 15th is price change effect date to 140.00 for badge purchase.  Saturday and Sunday passes available online in the store.

Wow..., not that I really try to make it a point to get to the parade.   But, this is kind of sad to hear.

That'll be 50,000 fewer people downtown on saturday morning.  Good for traffic, less good for local businesses.

According to Facebook they are calling it the last parade but they apparently thought that it was the last parade in 2016 too. Appears to be some kind of dispute with the city and D.C. About terms. I dunno. Enjoy it while it lasts I guess.

According to the parade chair who just responded she was not at the meeting, but anything said in the meeting that it was the last, was in jest.

Then that is a horrible joke that I am glad was a joke because that would take away a staple people were happy about.  I'll omit that note when I re-add the full post LOL.

Wait...I just got the volunteer details up.  Here are the announcements:

Load of stuff from the DragonCon staff meeting, so be ready for a lengthy one.

Announcements:
- Attendance expected to be around 82,000 this year. - Thursday night events growing.

 - July 15th is price change effect date to 140.00 for badge purchase. Saturday and Sunday passes available online in the store.

- First round of voting on August 3rd for the DragonCon Awards. Nominations are still open, until July 24th. So far more than double the nominations have been given than last year.

- The company match for this year is 100,000

 - Final Superheros event this year raised over 12,000 dollars and collected over 2,000 items for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

- All allocated volunteers should have received an email and if not received please check spam/junk folder as they might have been flagged. If not received contact volunteers office.

- Reminder: If you purchased a badge and then decided to volunteer, you will get a refund after you finish one successful volunteer year. You can get a refund soon with a written request submitted within 30 days if absolutely necessary.

- Omni and Sheraton has a few rooms available. Omni currently has 3 night minimum.

- Omni and Ritz now have DCTV.

- Safety concerns are being address for the convention due to the many concerns raised as of late. No plans are in place to change the weapon policy. However, all volunteers will be on full alert and are encouraged to be aware of the standing DragonCon policy as well as all attendees and know where to send those who have not been inspected. All weapons must be in non-working condition and peace-bonded. No projectile weapons (silly string,NURF, etc.) Bladed weapons sheathed at all times. Any weapons used in an offensive manner will be confiscated. Real firearms are not allowed even if a conceal and carry permit is carried by said person. Attendees who choose to ignore this policy will be asked to leave convention, have their membership revoked, and risk arresting by Atlanta PD (and no...DragonCon doesn't post bail.)  No harassment of any kind:  Pushing, shoving, lude behavior, sexual innuendo, inappropriate jokes, racial slurs, etc, will be tolerated.  This behavior will result in being asked to leave and membership revoked.  Incidences of harassment will be reported to security.  If you as a volunteer receive such a report or witness it, report it to Security in L405-06.
