Title: Fantasy Literature Track
Post by: Vondor on June 01, 2018, 10:55:36 AM
The director of the fantasy literature track resigned.  That can't be good this close to Con.
I used to attend this regularly, particularly when the Wheel of Time was its own separate track. I haven't gone their panels much the last couple of years I've been.

This is unfortunate. I dont know the full story obviously so I don't want to say who's right and who's wrong but its always sad to loose someone. I'm sure she is irreplaceable but I hope they find someone to fill her shoes soon.

It sounds more like she might have been fired from this statement...

"Fantasy Lit at Dragon Con: Unofficial It certainly wasn't the decision I would have preferred, and ultimately it wasn't mine to make, but it was probably the right call, in the end. But thank you for understanding."

It sounded that way to me to as well.  From some of the comments, it looked like she was protesting something the organization wanted her to do as well.  Their facebook page is now down. I didn't know her at all.  I've met some of the old directors that were involved in other tracks.

I was involved peripherally in the American Sci-Fi and Fantasy literature track 10+ years ago before and after they went through a leadership change.  The current director does a good job, but I don't think the leadership change for them was voluntary either.  I never got the full story.  That was back when tracks were using yahoo message boards/list serves rather than facebook pages.

Interesting.  I wonder what tracks will absorb their guests.  I can't say for sure whether or not I've attended one of theirs before.  I've been to several author panels, but couldn't say which track they were assigned.  Lots of grey lines and an aging memory :)

Is the whole track gone, or is it just the director?

Fairly certain its just the director. They may make an existing director of another track the director for it but still keep it separate. Thats what they did with XTtrack and Paranormal last year. *shrug*

New director is Cisca Small according to the website. Not sure who they are though. http://www.dragoncon.org/?q=fantasy_literature
