Drink recommendations?
« on: August 20, 2018, 10:04:20 AM »
I'm a big fan of beer when it comes to drinking (mostly pilsners and reds). However, it's always so hard to carry beer around con, I usually end up drinking good beer in the room and carrying cans of Bud light around that eventually end up warm. Can anyone give any recommendations for a straight liquor mix that a beer drinker would like and that doesn't require a lot of mixers, ice, garnishes, or top-offs to enjoy? Like something I could mix in a bottle or flask and carry around.

The only liquor I've ever carried around that I actually enjoyed was straight fireball... there's gotta be something better out there!

Keeping drinks cold is definitely problematic.

I generally just make some kind of mixed concoction that isn't vomit inducing even when it gets warm.

Also, I do keep a flask on me with bourbon in it, and from time to time drop by the consuite to get soda and ice.
I save beer for the room, or ordering at the hotel bars(although, I definitely limit that, because I'm not a millionaire).

I've also heard of people using a camelbak filled with a concoction and ice.   Apparently that stays cold for a while(depending on how much ice you decide to put in it).

The camelback idea works but be forewarned - it will ruin a good reservoir. If you are going to go this route make sure you get a cheap reservoir from Wal-Mart or something.

Try mead. You can drink it warm, cold, mix it with loads of different soft drinks, sparkling wines, add it to cocktails, cream liqueurs, spirits, put a slug of it into hot chocolate/coffee/tea, etc. If it's a bit too sweet, add it to cranberry juice, add some lime/lemon juice to it, mix it with a more sharp lemonade. You can also get loads of different flavours as well, I'm bringing a bottle of rhubarb mead over. There's plenty of good meaderies and mead makers Stateside, and a lot of them are online.

I drink Ameretto Sours which are not cloyingly sweet just something easy to drink. I use squirt soda for the sour. You can try mine if you want.

i'm just hoping the hilton still has those miniature fridges in the room... i can drink whiskies at room temp, but not beer or wine.  :o

Vondor--i've seen the Jack in my local liquor store; the Wild Turkey sounds very interesting, though...
