How early do they usually let people check in on Thursday?

They would not guarantee a room with 2 beds for me so I'm hoping to get there as early as possible to make that happen. If I am stuck with a King bed, do you think a queen sized air mattress would also fit in a typical room?

Mist, I don't know about Thursday but I was able to check in at noon the first time and 10 am the second time I stayed. Those were on a Friday.

And as far as I recall, I don't think you would be able to get a mattress in there due to the way they had it laid out. There's a desk and nightstand taking up a lot of space. You could maybe move them around if they aren't too heavy.

To add, that's just what I recall. I may have gotten a small room. The more I think about it, you can very likely move that desk, nightstand, and table (I forgot that is there too). When I checked in, I had asked for a king sized bed (the second time) and actually got two beds, so just ask and they can probably change it.

Thanks! That makes me feel a little better. I really hate this no-guarantee crap. We're only rooming with 2 other people but I'm sure all of us would prefer to sleep on a bed. I'll try showing up at 10am this year and see what happens.

I've never had a problem getting 2 beds on a Thursday. You should be fine, but yeah check in as soon as you can and that will help secure it for ya.

I've added a queen mattress in a Hyatt room before, but it was an International Room and I think they are bigger.

I don't know about a queen sized, but we fit 3 twin air mattresses in with a little rearranging.

Thanks for the reassurance. I plan on being there at 10am. :)

FWIW, it took me several years to come to this conclusion, but I think multiple adults (even 4) fit bitter in a room with a queen bed.  Mostly because the beds are fixed.  Best combination I have seen is the queen bed + fold-away bed (hotel usually will add to room for a small fee if you get it early) + twin aerobed.  Nicest thing here is the extra floor space/ room during the day.

Hey Mist... I know this was a couple years ago, but how was staying at the Marriott?  We are staying at the Marriott for the first time this year.

I'm a bit worried about the elevator wait times.  Any tips or tricks would be appreciated.

I haven't stayed in the Marriott since the room revamps.  The trick to the elevators in ANY hotel, however, is to either A: avoid them and take stairs if you are on lower levels, or B:  If you must, take whatever elevator you get.  Meaning, push both buttons for up and down and if you are going down and it is going up, just go up FIRST and take the ride and wait.  Otherwise you WILL be waiting.  This will shorten your wait time.  ;)

Last year was the first time my friends and I were able to stay in the Marriott.
It changed the whole D*con experience for me.    I freakin' loved it.
At 4 or 5 stories up, the sound(from the floor) wasn't bad at all... and the elevator wait times weren't excruciating. (5-10 min. generally)
We got there early Thursday(11am), had pretty quick check in, and got the 2-bed room we were hoping for.

Having a con-central location and just being able to step out the door and watch the sea of people below us made it worth whatever cost/hassle that was involved.

Thanks for the feedback!  We are checking in late on Weds, so I will make sure to request a lower floor.  Not worried about noise so much, just being able to get the room.  We have stayed at the Hilton and Westin as well.

I stayed at the Marriott last year and I can truly say all of the positive feedback you've gotten so far, is all true. It is most definitely the place to be, even though I haven't stayed at any of the other hotels, even though this is only my second year coming up at DragonCon. But I started my first year with a bang I couldn't see me being anywhere else but the Marriott for DragonCon, I think you're going to enjoy your stay there a lot, how could you not it's the center of the DragonCon universe. Even any negatives of staying at the Marriott is not that bad of a negative.
