Want to be part of a Guiness World Record?
« on: May 26, 2009, 12:33:45 AM »

(post edited to give more information)

Back in April of this year, students at William and Mary University set a world record by having 242 students dance to Thriller.  GBWR announced in May they have the record.  Well, I wanna break that record and get into the GBWR at DragonCon. :)

I've gotten in touch with the D*C programming people to see if they can help me do this, as well as make it an official event.  I've also been in contact with GWR people on how to submit and document our record breaking attempt.  I'm hoping to hear from the D*C people soon so I can get some helpers organized soon because this is not a one person show. :)

??? What can you do in the mean time?  Glad you asked!  Watch this video to give yourself some practice before the con:

It only took a couple of hours for the organizers of the W&M dance to teach and film the attempt, and that's what I'm figuring we'll need *if* we get to do it.  Can't dance?  Pffft, watch the video and you'll see many that can't dance doing it anyway.  Sometimes it's like climbing a mountain:  because it's there, dammit!  Count to yourself in beats of eight for the steps.  I'm hoping to put out a video for dummies kind of thing, but that would entail me getting off my ass and doing something and I'm enjoying my first week of summer.  I will do that for sure if I get the go ahead from D*C.

??? Do we  *have* to dress as zombies?  No, no, not unless you want to.  One of the biggest reasons I want to do it at D*C is because I want the variety that comes with our con.  Stormtroopers dancing next to Browncoats next to fairies?  Oh, heck, yea!  If you want to do a zombie costume theme (zombie Slave Leia), have at it!  It's all about having fun. :)

Find me on Face Book as Kimber McDermott and watch for more information.  I'm faxing in the GBWR stuff Monday to make sure we're good with that, too.  If we get a no from the D*C people, some from The Debauchery League (of which I'm a quiet but proud member!) suggested doing the parade, and that's an option, too.  I'm sure we can figure that out as well as a nice parade-like zombie dance/walk thingee.  That wouldn't be part of the record, though, and that's what I'm shooting for.  If we are able to go for the record, it has to be documented and everyone participating has to sign stuff.

My last words on this are:  I will have pie to share. :)

So no one is the least bit interested in getting into the Guiness Book of World Records?

Anyone?

Heh, I did not know about that record:

I say let's go for it!  Should be easy for a bunch of dragon-con people to pull it off!

Wow, things are progressing on this.  I think we might actually pull it off.

I'm meeting someone for lunch tomorrow that is super excited about this and offered her time to make a web site for those that want to dance.  That way I don't have to post on six different boards for updates. :)

I would really like for dancers to donate a dollar or two for D*C's charity this year.  Every little bit helps with research for a cure for Alzheimer's, and since my hubby's grandmother died from it, it's kinda personal.

I've found a few more videos so we can at least know the basics of the moves, then we can practice together before filming it.  I had my lawyer (aka the husband) look over the Guinness World Record paperwork, and that will be going off tomorrow.  If we can get at least 243 people interested, we're going for the record!

I'm so excited!  Thank you all for jumping on board for this.  I hope to have it very organized so very little time is taken from normal con activities. :)
