We could also move it up to our suite around 19:00. We stock a full bar but card everyone. Depending on response we may hire a bartender from the Hyatt.

Booze is free as long as it lasts but you have to get your own mixers from the vending machine just outside the suite. There will be some mixers to start things, but they will run out early.

would those of us who are underage be able to randomly come on by (and obviously not drink any)?

Those under the drinking age in Georgia are welcome but will not be allowed to consume adult beverages in our suite. Please don't try to bring your own. If you get caught we "will" be nasty and alert Hyatt security. We really have no choice. It's liability issue; we and the Hyatt have to enforce that rule.
 :-X
As to "randomly come on by" just make sure it's during the party time frame. I don't want to see you knocking on my door at 4:00 AM.
 :P

BTW, our theme is Celtic but feel free to wear any costume style, or none at all.

I am the bouncer for most of our room parties.  Don't attempt to sneak behind our bar to get booze and all is good.  I will throw you out if your are underage.  Otherwise everyone is welcome to our suite.   Oh.... and don't bring like 28 friends.

Yes, what Randah said.

This is a dragonconforums party so you will be required to sign on to dragonconforums via our handy on-site laptop or be kicked out. Actually we may even check join dates and make sure no one that joined a month before con is welcomed without a sponsor.

A cut-off date would be a great idea...I know I'm trying to honor the house rules and just bring my wife-I'm going to shake off my other friends while we attend.

Keep in mind: there's a reason why my member name is TheDrunkenJedi!

Title: Re: Forum Member Meet and Greet - Details

The bar will be pretty well stocked with the basics: Smirnoff, Jim Beam, Dewars,Tanqueray, Bacardi, Captain Morgan's. There will be a few specialties: Goldschlager, Amaretto, Rumplemintz and maybe some others but in limited supply. In fact some maybe be depleted before Saturday, but the basics will still be there.

If anyone has an affinity for fine Scotch let me know. As the theme is Celtic, if enough people like fine Scotch I may just bring a special bottle just for us.

I will try to be there.  Thanks kindly for the invite. :)

One question:  Will I be able to bring in my own "mug o' pie"?  That's all I drink all weekend, and I make it myself, because it seems to be the only thing alcoholic that does not make me ill.

If you are old enough to drink alcohol in Georgia you can bring your own.

But you need to check it in at the bar so it can be served to you.If there is any left you may take it with you. There will be a sign in and out sheet for this.  :P

Just kidding. ;)

Serve it to me?  It's already in a serving cup. :)  <scrummages for a pic>

See?  No serving necessary. :)  Or is there a rule about having to be served?  I'm confuddled. :(  No one will be drinking after me this year, I can tell you that.  I was sick for two weeks with the ick.  If someone wants a taste, they best have their own cup.  And that goes for my giiganto-bottle of water slung over my shoulder.  No lips my mine own shall tough the sweet nectar of pie from the mug.

While it may make me sound stupid... never been to a D*C, but am so friggin' excited.  I know it's been called a 'forum meet and greet', but are we all welcome?  I'll be coming with two others from Fayetteville, Arkansas and knowing we're invited to a party would only increase our excitement.  And if so, what items/supplies is still needed?  Something we can bring to help out?

Of course you are invited. I think it is listed earlier but you only need to bring yourself and buddies plus anything "special" you want. There will be plenty of chips, hot dogs, popcorn, soda plus there is a vending machine and ice machine just out side the room.

Oh, you could stop by Little Rock and bring our daughter.  :)

Hi from Indiana!! My twin, his wife, and I would very much like to attend the meet and greet. We're getting very excited, too. There are 3 of us Hoosiers in my party, and we've been practicing our Celtic accents. Actually, we watch alot of Mike Meyers & Sean Connery movies, so I'm not sure if that's even close to Celtic?!!!  ;D We will be in costume & should all be wearing skirts, but 1 will be a kilt. (I've been told to NOT call my brother's kilt a skirt...) haa haaa!!!!! 39 days left, right?... (I'm not so great at math!) :)

Got a call from my sister to post a reply and tell everybody "hi."
I'll be in the Kilt. My wife (Michelle) will try to bring YUKKA!!!

[It's been awhile since I attempted to make it.]
Ingredients: ICE, SUGAR, LEMONS, and VODKA!

Hot dogs, dip and chips, etc.

Basic booze for the old folks. ;D  There's a soda machine right around the corner but we will have basic mixers.

Wear your favorite costume or come casual. Bama and VT fans are encouraged to wear their colors.  :)

Since you are now paying your coach more than we are paying ours I will make a special exception for you and any Gator fan you bring. Be it known though, that any Gator fan that "cheers" a good VT play will be thrashed about the the head and shoulders with a chess board, even if the chess game is in progress.
 :)

And please don't bring any Gatorade based drinks. They will be laced with Tide detergent on arrival.

It looks like we will have about a dozen folks Saturday night. Possibly 25% will be interested in watching the football game. There's plenty of room but when the game is on there won't be any music around the game TV. There are lots of other spots that music can be played or conversations made: balconies, bar, dinning table, etc.

No offense taken. Gators usually play an off team then so we pay more attention to the con, and since I have about 10 costumes this year, I should wear one of those (funny thing is most of them are red).

And I'd rather hear an SEC game than music... but that's just me.  ;)

And I think it will be great just to meet everyone in person.

Greetings and Salutations,

My name's Corban, and I've been attending Dragon*Con since 1993; since then, I've seen many a costumed-character and celebrity at the event.  Many of you have visited the con as many times as I have, so I'll make my introduction short.

My wife will be attending her best friend's bachelorette party on Saturday evening in Buckhead (she's getting picked up by a limo at the front of the hotel), so I'll be hanging around the floor and our Hyatt room; depending on what is scheduled that night, I'll need some people to hang out with.

I know that I'm a newcomer to the site, but if anyone is having a party, I'll be glad to bring a few spirits by the room and contribute what I can to the revelry.

Martele d'Acre seems to be having a wonderful party in his suite; I humbly ask for your permission to attend.  I know that, technically, I'm a small fish on this forum, but I want you to know that I'm a seasoned D*C attendee.  We're staying at the Hyatt from Friday morning until Sunday afternoon, so if any of you can spare another member at your party, I'll be there Saturday night.

You are most welcome at the party Doc.

P.S. Try to get some of the the drunk girls from your wife's party to show up.

Understood.

I see that you are coming in from Alabama.  I grew up in Eufaula and Montgomery before moving to Atlanta, and my family still lives down in Foley and Mobile.  Small world, huh?

This is a copy of my post from the FAQ: How much will it cost me (dollars) to go to Dragon*Con 2009? thread.

Yeah, I'd like to know if you need anyting for the party as well.

Since we only live 20 miles away from downtown Atlanta, my wife and I'll be hitting the grocery/liquor store before check-in on Friday morning, so I need to know if you want me to bring anything when I arrive.  She sends her regards, but she will be partying it up (as you already know) with the bride (her best friend) and the bride's maids at an Italian restaurant in downtown Atlanta while we're having fun and getting to know one another.

Because some past (somewhat embarrassing) transgressions related to AM drinking have educated me, I usually wait until 6:00 or 7:00 PM to start the "adult" festivities on Saturday, so I'll be sober when I arrive.  This means that I will require several stiff drinks before retiring to a "beer stashed in my bag" diet for the rest of the night.  I can bring some single-serve liquor bottles with me if you'd like; I agree with your "know how many you've had to drink" philosophy regarding the "airline bottles".  A fifth or half-gallon tends to encourage excess and foolishness.

I'll bring anything you need, Martele d'Acre and Muerandah.  It sounds like you'll have the chips, dip, dogs, and drink, but I know that you'd probably like for people to bring something to augment your generous offering.  Please let me know, and I'll provide.

I'm a deer eating NRA member. Maybe you could bring something for the Vegans. If are any coming please give a shout out.

Just bring drinks if they are special. Also special snacks if it is something you really want.

I will post the food list when we check in but I don't expect it to change from what has been posted before.

Geez man I'm a deer eating NRA member. Maybe you could bring something for the Vegans but I highly doubt they will attend our party.

...did I hear Venison and NRA?!? WooHoo!

Marte is back as my favorite person.

That's too bad, because I'm all out of the wild hog sausage that I brought back from south Georgia this year.

Look bro, I was just messing with you a little. That okay??

Muerandah and I are carnivores, but I do eat veggies. However I have to mix meat with them. I typically have the chef julienne them and fry them with bacon. She won't even do that.

Seriously if there are non meat eaters coming we would like to know and have no problem accommodating y'all. We just need to know, and need to pretty fast. Our shopping plan is Wednesday at Fort McPherson.

~sadness~

So where in South Georgia. I might like to spear a boar with you, or shoot one from a tree...

I spent a weekend+ in Adell/Hahira last Summer but it wasn't hunting season. Or are boars open season?

I don't have many good hogs on my place (thank grace) but I do have a nice white tail herd, and lot's of turkeys. Unfortunately turkeys are Spring season only here. Really s's.

Late and need to move on. We will talk more at D*Con. I will try to save a wee dram for us to have on the balcony. BTW, do you enjoy cigars?

Marty

We (my father and I) usually go down to some family land in Bainbridge, GA in the southwest corner of the state to hunt hogs; there's no closed season on private land in the state.  I've never hunted on managed, or public land, but I assume that there are seasonal restrictions when you go that route.  It's fun, but it can be terrifying if you get caught off guard.

There's a festival every Thanksgiving in Climax (a short distance from Bainbridge) called "Swine Time" where you can see a pig turned into everything from fried rinds, to chitterlings, to ham and bacon (ready-to-eat).  My wife hates it, but I think it's fascinating.

I can't wait to meet everyone.  I've been known to smoke a cigar, but I'm no snob about the quality or strength of the tobacco.  I'm a little too young to pull off a pipe (I don't want to look like a pretentious weirdo), but I think that I'd like to take up smoking one in a few years.

This will be my fifth DC, but they are spread out over about 12 years.  I haven't been since 2006.  I work in retail management so I'm usually on-duty for the weekend sales, but this year I'm a victim of the recession (boo hoo).  Fortunately I have enough saved up that I can look forward to the Con to lift my spirits and lift some spirits and meet some spriits - okay I've used that pun up.

I've met some great people over the years, but since I don't attend regularly, I've lost touch with all of them, so its time to meet some more great people this year.

I'm a big Doctor Who fan and used to be a big Buffy fan.  I used to moderate a forum on an overseas site for Doctor Who, before the new series started - I know, wierd eh?.... A Yank mod'ing DrWho, but no one else wanted to do it maybe since there were no new episodes being made.  And I used to mod a Buffy forum during the fourth and fifth season for that same site and write synopses for another.

But like a lot of people I don't get too bogged down in discussions much any more, I mostly go for the acts, the films, the music and the party.  I actually call it - Mardi Gras in Atlanta.

I'm a local.  I'll be there Friday after rush hour without a badge to enjoy the photo op of people arriving in costume and soak in the party atmosphere.  Then Saturday I'll get my badge for the rest of the weekend.

I'll be dressed in a lab coat with a silly ID badge, like Dr. B. Wolf, UNIT science advisor (DrWho).  I'll use my user name on my DC badge.  If you see me give me a shout-out.

Hope to see y'all there.
