How to change my room to the Dragon*Con Room Rate
« on: July 16, 2009, 01:15:52 PM »
I have rooms in the Marriott, but not at the Dragon*Con rate... does anyone know what the Dragon*Con rate is this year and any tips or tricks for getting the rooms switched over to that rate?

The only way would be to get someone's reservation. :(  I just talked with Marriott last week to see what they would do for me since we're platinum members (I was hoping for an upgrade at D*C rates), and the guy said no more rooms would be released at D*C rates so nothing for you!  Muahahahaha!  Well, ok, he didn't actually do the evil laugh.

Sorry, hon, but now you get to play the "please let me have your D*C reservation" game.  I'll keep you in mind if I hear of anyone giving one up.

Thanks!

I do have 6 rooms right now, so I'm not in a situation where I need more rooms... just better rates.

You know, I travel for work all the time, but I'm always staying at hilton's.  Hmmnnn.... hmmnn.....

when did you book them?  we booked ours before DCon rates were announced.   We get the same suite and adjoining room each year, we book normally at leaving or within two weeks of the end of the con.    Sometimes its just a call to the local hotel, or a trip (if you can afford it) to talk to management.  They will work with you.   I have a buddy that does the rock star party.  He got a suite late last year, (below us), he booked as soon as he could lst

year, but they then tried to tell him since he booked before con rates were published, which they weren't for the Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, he was gonna have to pay full rate.   He had all his emails with them, booking so early, the specific dates, I told him to make a trip to the Hyatt in person.   He's got DCon rates now.... Will be his 2nd year in the same suite.

My advice is to book your room when you check out.  Get a name.  Have them print it out.  Then just work throughout the year.   They will bend.  If they figure out you're a good guest that will come every year they'll change your rates.

Thanks Muerandah, I tend have better than average success sweet-talking people... I'm hoping I can pull it off again.  I'll try calling, and at the very least try when I'm checking in... at least at the Hyatt they seemed empowered to do whatever they had to to get people checked in and keep them relatively happy.

The past 5 years or so I always booked on January 1st... but yeah, I'm gonna start booking a year or two in advance.  We have stayed at the Hyatt every year after our first year, but we're gonna do the Mariott this year... I figured it more central if we also want to get to the gaming (Hilton), the rooms seem a bit nicer, and it might be nice to mix it up a bit.

Hey there. Back in FEB when I talked to one of the girls working at the Hilton, she said they can only book 1 year in advance. But, then again, I didn't have a smooth, velvety, manly - man voice in which to persuade her otherwise...!!  ::)  I'm going to have my brother book in person when we leave. He's quite the schmoozer!  I really want to get the D*Con rate. I missed it this time, dang it!
I got the Hilton this year... should we try for the Sheraton next? Although, I've read where the Hilton was seen as quieter... so my party of 3 might like that best.
p.s. I'm the one with the Aes Sedai questions many months ago. [ICY - DIE... but say it slooow!]

I remember you!  :-)

Hilton should be comparatively quiet, but so should the Sheraton.
