Got my badge today!!
« on: June 07, 2009, 02:12:23 AM »

Finally broke down and got the dang thing.  I had been thinking of not going, but as time gets closer, I'm getting excited again so off went my $90.  Next year, while I'm still in the glow of the Con '09, I'm buying the darn thing immediately.

I backed down from the nickname I wanted to put, and scarfyrre will be on my badge so if anyone on the various boards actually pays attention to my ramblings, they'll know who to kick out of the party. :)

On pick up day packed in my big hippie purse will be the program, highlighters, a book, iPhone, and water.  I'm ready to stand in line! /em salutes

No costumes, still fat, but I have my badge, dammit. :)

Oh, hey, if anyone lives in Atlanta and we know each other (name is Kimber), let me know, please.

Insomnia sucks...gonna go try.  Night.

Yay!  I'm glad you will be there!

Yeah, my logic for buying at the con the year before (50% off) is this:  even if I decide not to go, I can transfer it to someone else, and it will be cheaper even with the $20 transfer fee.

I incorporate the following years' *Con into my budget almost every year. The half-off savings is just applied to spending money...buck saved, buck earned.

Well, it is hard to disagree with that statement. However, at some point time is money. I am just not willing to stand in line for that long to save less than I make in that time.

I can work online so a hour online in the hotel room Thursday rather than waiting in line can pay for next year's tickets. However, I don't really mind waiting in line as long as the line is moving.

I like meeting people in line... part of the ramp up excitement about the con... becoming a bit of a ritual now.  Any new people at the con with us really start asking a lot of questions when they see the volume of people waiting to get tickets the day before the con officially starts!

Is there any time when D*C sells out?  Is there a limit to the number of memberships?  I heard rumors there were 40K people in attendance last year, and they expect more this year.

Honestly, as much fun as I've had the last few years, it's almost getting too big.  I didn't make but one event last year, and that was only because the Dr. Horrible people ended up doing a second show when the first filled up.  The Venture Brothers panel had people lining up three hours before-hand, and as patient as I am to stand for an hour or 90 minutes for a badge at the beginning, I'm not going to continually sit for hours to get into a panel.  I also made sure I stood in line for Adam West's autograph, which took bloody forever, but missed Nathan Fillion's because I was not in the mood to do it again.

I have heard several people say it should be moved to the World Congress Center:
http://www.gwcc.com/

That would help some, but Adam West can only see so many people in one weekend... so I think the content should get larger as well... it's on that path, but I think more aggressive growth of the con to keep up with demand would be a very good idea.
