Are you interested in a Convention Game

Yes!  It would be so much fun to have an event that is running on all the time!
No Way!  I don't need more things distracting me from my itinerary.
Depends what it is... and how many wackos are playing... I don't play with Wackos.

Convention Game...
« on: January 28, 2009, 11:00:03 PM »
So I'm thinking about organizing a convention game.  It could be any game, but what I have helped run with several hundred people in the past is a game called "Assassins".  I did this in college dorms and at several camps.

For those who do not know what it is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassin_(game)

And a summary - Assassins is a game where everyone in the game has the name of someone else in the game.  The objective is to:
(1) Stealthily 'kill' your target
(2) Take your target's target - this is your new target
(3) Go back to (1)

I would give out prizes for:
(A)  The most kills
(B)  The most creative kill
(C)  The "last person standing" - if the last person standing killed at least 20% of the other people in the game (else everyone just hides)

We could hash out the rules here, but I think 'safe' zones would be:
 - Any bathroom
 - Any hotel room the assassin was not invited into
 - Any scheduled Dragon*Con event with chairs from 5 min before the start time to 5 minutes after the end time

I'm deliberating on what I think the best method for kill is.  Here are some that have worked out well in the past:
 - The cheap cheap water pistols.  Cool... except they tend to break/ leak.
 - Discreetly telling your target "I love you".  I think this opens it up for a lot of creative kills.
 - A Spoon* or some foam weaponry.
 - Take a picture of your target.  You have to be able to see the target's face, and they have to be smiling!

*Why a spoon, cousin? Why not an axe?   Because it's DULL, you twit. It'll hurt more.

What do you guys think?

I'm totally for some sort of game!

Just a few suggestions, though. :)

1.  Water pistols a big no.  Costumes!  I would be so pissed to get shot by water while wearing my leather corset.
2.  I would up the time for events because some of them require standing in line for an hour or more before being allowed to sit.  Maybe they have to be walking around and not in line or seated at all?
3.  What about a chip or something to get from the kill?  Or something to clip to our lanyards?

Good points.
(1)  Water is out.
(2)  I'm thinking lines need to be fair game, just because there is such a short amount of time available to try to finish the game.
(3)  I was thinking about laminating cards with the picture of your target on it... and a clip/ lanyard/ something.  Maybe you have to wear it all the time (just folded so your target is not readily available!

I seem to recall reading about something like this being done last year.

Remember not all people wear lanyards.  Some just clip their badge to their clothing.

Also good call on nixing the squirt guns, in case you'd forgotten:

Rule #9 (Con Rules) states
Quote
Please abide by our weapons policy: All weapons must be non-working and peace bonded. No functioning projectile weapons includes water pistols, silly-string guns, and ping-pong pistols. Bladed weapons must be cased or sheathed at all times. No clowning around or showing off in the common areas. Any weapon used in an offensive manner will be confiscated and rule #7 enforced. We expect you to use good judgment; with your help, we can continue to allow peace-bonded weapons - thanks!

and for those that want to know what Rule 7 is
Quote
We reserve the right to ask you to leave the convention and refuse to refund your membership money if you are behaving - in technical terms - like a jerk.
