Very nice spreadsheet. We do much the same thing but without the colors, bells and whistles. :)

I hope you make it within your budget. Remember that if you like hot dogs and chips you have free dinner at the meet and greet Saturday night.

It was an easy to read template from a much larger and more extensive budget proposal I had completed when I worked for Jack Nicklaus.

My boss thought the official budget was too confusing and detailed...he suggested adding some color and dumbing it down for Jack (it was kicked back only once for a revision...they didn't agree that fuel costs would surge to over $4.75 a gallon in '08).

I still use it for when I'm dumbed-down from booze, so it's easier to spend like a drunken sailor (or Jedi).

Looks like I will be within my Dragon*Con budget to within $120...not bad considering some of the "fat" built-in.

great spread sheet.... Marty printed it out the other day, and we modified it for us.... I just used to break things down by different sheets, now we've got everything on one due to you..... wow, it really opened my eyes as to how much we spend......

Hope we get to meet you at our party.

Any way I can help out.

...and of course I'll be at your party-you'd have to beat me down with a night stick!

On a related note, is there anything we should bring as guests?

Yeah, I'd like to know if you need anyting for the party as well.

I suppose that this is a thread-jack from the "meet and greet" posts, but I'm curious, so I'll ask (even though It will cost me "dollars" when I "go to Dragon*Con 2009").  I'll cross-post this in the appropriate thread FAQ: How much will it cost me (dollars) to go to Dragon*Con 2009? for good measure.

Since we only live 20 miles away from downtown Atlanta, my wife and I'll be hitting the grocery/liquor store before check-in on Friday morning, so I need to know if you want me to bring anything when I arrive.  She sends her regards, but she will be partying it up (as you already know) with the bride (her best friend) and the bride's maids at an Italian restaurant in downtown Atlanta while we're having fun and getting to know one another.

Because some past (somewhat embarrassing) transgressions related to AM drinking have educated me, I usually wait until 6:00 or 7:00 PM to start the "adult" festivities on Saturday, so I'll be sober when I arrive.  This means that I will require several stiff drinks before retiring to a "beer only" diet for the rest of the night.  I can bring some single-serve liquor bottles with me if you'd like; I agree with your "know how many you've had to drink" philosophy regarding the "airline bottles".  A fifth or half-gallon tends to encourage excess and foolishness.

I'll bring anything you need, Martele d'Acre and Muerandah.  It sounds like you'll have the chips, dip, dogs, and drink, but I know that you'd probably like for people to bring something to augment your generous offering.  Please let me know, and I'll provide.

So, I'm just gonna take a wild guess and say the host hotels are already sold out. We tried just going on the Hyatt and Marriott's website, and they were both not available for the dates of next year's con.  We tried booking a room last night, and already couldn't.  :(

Rooms are not available yet for those hotels... Marriot should be available Oct 1st, Hyatt Oct 15th (or 16th).

The Hilton is accepting reservations for D*C '11 at the con-rate. We reserved our rooms on the 15th.

Although our first choice is the Marriott, we booked at the Hilton as a back-up in the event we can't get into the Marriott. Hopefully, that jacked-up PassKey thing doesn't repeat itself. >:(

Please don't forget calling the hotel you want directly. It may take a few transfers but if you are persistent you can find a real person that can book your room.

NOTE: We have booked in the past at full rate and called later and adjusted to Con rate.

The big thing is to get a confirmation number. Once you have that a lot of options are open to you.

Wasn't the Hilton doing non refundable deposits this year?  That's what I heard.  I'm taking my chance with the Hyatt.

When talking to the Hotel directly who do you usually talk to Martele d'Acre?

We actually really like the International tower having stayed in the Atrium for the last 10 years but we usually get a corner room with adjoining double so it makes it feel almost like a suite.

I really am anxious about waiting till Oct to book my room, I like to have that done sooner than later.

Any advice on using your points for a upgrade?  I always seem to not be able to use them and was wondering if you do this at the hotel or prior to. (or even if you do use points for upgrade).

That isn't exactly correct but was the rumor. Hilton's typically pre-charge one night's stay (deposit) when you book a room. This is not only at D*Con. However, if you cancel within the required time (24 hour normal, maybe 48+ hour D*Con) you get a refund of your deposit.

I call the direct number and ask for the "Suite Desk."

Yes, those are nice. If you are not planning on a large suite party or lots of guests it can work very well.

Not really. I've never tried to use points at D*Con. That's when I build them up and get free nights for the rest of the year.
