Title: FAQ: Forum Membership Levels and Types
Post by: Trathor on July 30, 2014, 02:18:53 PM
Hey guys!

So by popular demand, here is a quick Rundown of the forum membership types/ levels and boards.

Post-Count Based Groups (These are groups that you advance in by making more posts*.)
* Please note, shameless post count bumping is not tolerated, and will result in posts being deleted, and possibly an IP ban.  That being said, there is a ton of places to post about ANYTHING, so shameless post count bumping really should never be an issue.

Guest:  Either has not created an account, or has not logged in.  Guests can see everything in the "Dragon Con Related (More or Less)"
But cannot see the Archive boards.

Newbie: Has created an account, but not yet made a post.  After a certain amount of time, I assume you are a robot and trying to figure out something nefarious.  These are periodically expunged.  To make an account, you have to answer some security questions (example, what city is Dragon Con in? or What is the answer to life, the universe and everything? (hint: the answer is 42)).  Also, you have to authenticate your account with a valid email address.  This is to keep out the spam robots.

I've made a post!: Has made at least one post.  (I know, this name is hard to understand.)  These members can see everything guests can see plus, the Archive Boards in General Section and "Not as Dragon Con Related":

Neophyte: Has made 6 posts.
Can see everything a newbie can, plus portions of the Members Only Section:

Jr. Member: Has made 50 posts.
Can see everything a Neophyte can, plus:

Sr. Member:  Has made 100 posts.  Can see almost everything.  Can see everything a Jr. Member can, plus:
As posts counts grow, or we have need for it, I am happy to make more groups/ sections for what pleases the forum.

Other Types of Groups:
Moderator:  TheDrunkJedi is our main moderator.  As needed, we may add more for specific sections if appropriate, but really TDJ is doing well here, and I don't want too many chefs in the kitchen.  He can move posts around/ delete/ whatnot.

Grandfathered To Full Member: I made this group to give access to people who had more than 50 posts, but less than 100, access to the Full Members Section, since as I was updating the boards, I did not want anyone to lose access to something they already had.

Mature Member: If we have a scenario where someone wants to post something that is not appropriate for younger audiences, but they do not yet have 50 posts, this group gives you access to the Mature Members section.  Please don't ask for access here unless you are going to post something, as EVERYONE asks for access here, but hardly no one actually posts here.

Staff: If/ When formal members of Dragon Con ask to join the forum, and they let me know, I will put them in this group.  Who knows what kinds of strange and wonderful things they can now see and do?  (Hint: I know.)

I know I've only been here a few weeks, but you and TDJ run a good shop, and the people here are a lot nicer than many nerd communities. I'm glad to be here with u guise

EDIT: One hilarious thing you can do instead of banning people who shitpost is to create a hidden spam forum, then assign them to a group where all they can see is that. It's pretty dang funny.
