FAQ: All things related to Post Count (and related questions)
« on: October 17, 2013, 09:13:29 PM »
All,

The more posts you have, the more rights and access you have in the forum.

If you do posts that are in the spirit of the community, we will shower gifts and presents upon you, probably in the form of pie or jello shots.

If you don't, you will feel the angry gaze of geeks and nerds from across the interwebs in the forms of 1's and 0's.

Please keep posts relevant to the board at hand, and post to your hearts content in the 'All things not dragon*con' section of the forum. Just know this does not increment your post count (as of 10/17/13).

If I have to move a thread into this section as of this date, those posts will decrement your post count.

EDIT: Sorry to waffle on this, but been processing some feedback and I want to encourage people to feel excited to post on the boards, and it seems I may have undermined that.10/25/13

Please only as questions related to this FAQ in this thread.  I will update this FAQ to keep those questions answered.

So if we're not sure what thread to put them in should we ask somewhere first or just put it in the "Not Con" thread?  Sometimes I'm not sure where exactly to put them, as they're kind of Con related but also kind of not.

If you're not sure, just post in All thing Not...

I can always move it over to GD.

This is not a post count question, but it *is* a technical issue: how come sometimes when i put an apostrophe in a post, the board deletes everything after the apostrophe? Some sort of html thing?

For instance, i may lose everything after this one's--the quick brown fox....

Ok so it behaved itself this time, but in the past it would cut off from the s onward.
"You and I remember Budapest very differently."

"I like feet."

"Am I being tangible? ...Gary?"

"How quickly can we buy this building?"

"More drinking. Less feeling."

"Whatever just happened, blame it on the pig."

:) see my post about d12

Eta: there you go.  The rest of the sentence was: "[apostrophe]s in the geek hobby thread. I finally ended up leaving it out."

I am trying to figure this out also.  I know if I use non-ASCII letters, it cuts off.  Not 100% sure what causes it though, but I am trying to find out.

Copy and pasting into the edit box makes part of the message disappear as well.

Really?  I have never had this... unless part of the message was disappearing already.  I really think it has something to do with the type of text in the body of the message.

If anyone has an example of something disappearing, please email me a copy of what you are trying to say, at kpdezend that is a gmail address.  Please BOLD the part that posts properly.  FYI, if you ever post and this happens, you can click 'back' on your browser to get the page with the text 'before' it was submitted.

Gonna test and see if it is still happening.

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs.

Pellentesque molestie volutpat pharetra.

Seems like it resolved itself. It was happening when I was trying to copy/ paste info from the Walker Stalker con page into a post to answer a person about pricing. Even dropping the text into notepad to remove formatting and trying different browsers didn't resolve it at the time. I'll let you know if it happens again.

Not really.  The words are Latin, but it's a specific kind of gobeltygook Latin (modified from something Cicero wrote I think) that doesn't actually translate into something that makes sense.  Type-setters use it to estimate how to lay out pages before actual text is final.  It's called "Lorum Ipsum" and you can find generators on the web that will make as much as you want/need:

Absolutely.  Every time I have had an issue, I have been editing a message in word and pasting it into the forum. I lose half the message.
