Some items I've brought after wishing I had them in previous years:

- Your own mini-fridge. If you just bring it for one year, you've already broken even as opposed to paying the host hotels. I believe all of them charge for it at this point... unless you tell them you medically need one.

Can you just wheel in your mini fridge or do you have to be sneaky and smuggle it in?

I think at this point most don't care, we just wheel in a cooler that we fill with ice.

On top of that, the one you bring will be MUCH bigger.

Where I breastfed all three of my children, we had those refreeze-able ice packs that came with the pumps to keep bottles cool for transport as well as the ones that they gave at the hopspital as part of the mom's "congratulations on making that choice" packages.  I saved every single one of em and kept them in the freezer.  We use those to avoid the cost of ice and the inevitable melting and need of draining the water that ensues.  Where we usually get a room that has a kitchenette, we refreeze the packs in the freezer and for transport back, they are ready to go to keep everything cool on the road home again.  Investing in those is definitely a good alternative.  You can buy those at Wal-Mart, Garden Ridge, etc.  They can be used year round, you buy em once, less mess, and less money.  :)

I didn't even try to be sneaky. Just loaded it off my car, handed it to the bellhop to load on the roll-a-way, and that was it.

If people post more ideas here, I will update the FAQ.  Also, ask questions if you should or should not bring X/Y/Z.

Still exploring this forum, but noticed this link isn't available - what are the prerequisites for getting access to it?

Just as a note about coolers... I had the actual APD search my cooler checking into the Marrott two years ago.  They found my quarter keg in the cooler and forbade me to bring it on-premise. Put the keg in the car, had them search the now empty cooler, then I brought the keg back up in a duffle bag.  Just imagine, if it looks like you may throw a room party by the stuff you're bringing in, it might be searched so be smart about it.   Funny thing about that keg, the liquor disappeared the the keg was most full leaving, two lessons learned.
