This map prompted me to think about Ritz Carlton as well. I did not realize it was so close. I literally just asked Trathor via iMessage why in the world Dragoncon didn't expand to the Ritz Carlton. Our conclusion was that they're probably afraid we'd stink up the place and break shit.

are DCon rates higher or lower? (I have my suspicion)

After checking out their website, the price of a regular room is not nearly as high as I thought it would be.

I guess a big part of me was just, almost comically, picturing men in top hats and monocles and all that and when someone all dressed up in their cosplay for DC walks through you just here that snooty voice going "Oh my!" lol
The price in '13 was comparable to a host hotel.

My image of the Ritz Carlton goes right back to my 6th grade field trip to one in Boston.  My whole class bused in to have lunch there. We had been practicing table etiquette, posture, how to place a setting, and what forks, knives etc. to use. Seemed a bit stuffy. Can you imagine that happening today??  LOL. Sometimes I think I grew up in some alternate dimension.

Hah! That's crazy LOL, but we live outside of Charleston and there's still a fair bit of stuff like that going on around here (actually do some design work for a woman who runs an etiquette & protocol school here)  ;)

To get back on-topic - I'm actually surprised that the Ritz has similar con rates to the host hotels - I would have thought they'd be double that price! Worth considering if so ;)
