*plops down at her desk like the Catholic schoolgirl she once was and pulls out a notebook and paper. She clears her throat as she begins to write her essay.....in cursive*
I cosplay because: *heheh so far so good*
I am a creative individual and I've always actively sought out outlets for me to express myself that way. A bit more about costuming I picked up the love of sewing from my mother, sadly it wasn't until her passing that I actively learned how to sew properly. Sure she'd taught me how to "work" the machine but never how to truly use it. Mainly I was too young when I wanted to learn or she was too busy. I began to sew as a way to feel closer to her, but she always made my Halloween costumes...and she was amazing at it, delicate uses of lace and perfect seams. I still can't sew as straight as her. However cosplay also intersected with my inner otaku/nerd/crazy person and also gave me an outlet to express that as well. So in my books it was a bit of a win-win.

For me cosplay is all about celebrating life and the things we love, and connecting with other people that feel the same. It's a fun and creative way to be bold and rebel against the monotony that too often seeps into everyday adult life. I'm a fan of all things creative so I enjoy learning all the skills and creating things. Cosplaying with my husband is all about having fun together. We love seeing other people cosplay what they love and so we try to do the same. Ultimately I think I equate cosplaying with being brave. This may sound silly but the more I cosplay the more comfortable I feel in my own skin and with expressing myself. I feel like my confidence has increased quite a bit over the years from cosplaying. Plus it helps create positive social connections and I enjoy the happy energy.

It is a way to celebrate the shows I love, just like how I wear so much UK gear, it celebrates my favorite sports team. But the biggest reason is simple, it makes DragonCon more fun. I do enjoy making the cosplay (finally working on a helmet again), but it really comes down to the fact that, for me, it just makes DC more fun.

I cosplay because it feels so damn good, I give you some moments to be in character and become something else. Cosplaying is also a outlet for creativity so those who have an artist in them, find comfort in doing it. I cosplay because it's a chance to be a character that I really like or like to be if it was possible. I tend to cosplay as superheroes because if there was a possibility I could be one, I would be. I really enjoyed cosplay and going to cosplaying events because you get to see all the creativity different people ideas, and characters while their having a blast. When you put people in costumes together there's a certain energy that makes whatever the event more spectacular, this is why I always believed Halloween parties, masquerade parties, or whatever parties was always better.
