Book characters

Always been a mild wannabe cosplayer, but never gotten around to it.  This will be a return to con after a couple years of "life issues" and I'm thinking about putting together a simple one to more notably mark the celebration.

Random questions though, just out of curiousity:
How common are book character cosplays?  Ive encountered plenty of comic-only ones, but I don't recall many book only.  At least if I have seen any I personally didnt recognize them as I only got back to reading in earnest fairly recently   Anyone here ever do one?  If so, did you get recognized at all, and if you didn't get recognized did you even care?

I'm thinking prof/limelight from the reckoners series by Brandon Sanderson.  I personally doubt id be bothered in the slightest if noone knew it, because then I'd be able to tell them about some awesome books (that actually have a pending movie deal I'd REALLY LOVE to see happen) so I could spread some joy and hype.  Just wanted to get everyone's take on book cosplays.

TV/movie/comic cosplay are defintely the most common but there are people that cosplay from books/literature only.
Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings cosplay is much more common since the TV show/ovies came out, but there were costumes prior.  I have not seen cosplay from Brandon Sanderson's core works that I have recognized, but I have not read many of his books.  There are Wheel of Time cosplays, again less often since the books were completed and the track was absorbed into the High Fantasy track.

There are also costumes from D&D, which I would consider books.
Probably my favorite cosplay of all time was a group that cosplayed as the Companions of the War of the Lance from Dragon Lance, circa 1995-1997.

Do what makes you happy and what you want. People will like it.

There was some from the book versions of shadow hunters last year. I used to do my book version of Bellatrix Lestrange back in the day for conventions. The biggest thing is not to set your expectations too high to be recognized unless your at something specifically for that book.

You probably won't be recognized but who cares. Cosplay what makes you happy.  :)
