New Cosplayer
« on: August 15, 2017, 09:04:40 AM »
So..., I'm finally going to try cosplaying this year.
They're not going to be phenomenal looking, but I think people will get the gist.

Here's a simple one a friend wants me to do.

Dr. Hammond from Jurassic Park.

Would anyone actually understand what I was going for?   The only difficult part I could see making would be the cane(just not sure what to use to make the amber top piece)

I definitely think it will be recognizable, especially with the cane.

For something like the amber - (not sure if I can post Amazon links here), but look up 'amber ball.'
There's a few options that might work for what you're looking for that are relatively inexpensive. They aren't oval but they'll get the job done!

I have also seen some folks carry a small stuffed dinosaur or even a little egg with a dino popping out.

I searched for amber colored marbles..., but settled on a less translucent object.
Went with an orange/yellow/brown swirled glass egg.

Should have the right oval shape.   And, I guess I'll just paint a little black mosquito on the side.

Then I think I can whittle down a 2" dowel rod to give it the bamboo look(hopefully).

Nice!
I'd love to see it when it's done.  :D

excellent.  i was thinking about this; thought one of those blown glass fishnet float type things in amber would work, but didn't know where to tell you to get one.  i pick mine up in thrift/antique/junk stores when i see them.

eta:  -derp-  OK, so, ebay.

I would have never thought of that.
But, those are all WAY too big.

I just won my auction for $9, which is still a lot(in my opinion) for a little 2"x2.5" glass egg.

Oh well.

I basically made 3 cosplays for under $100.   Not too shabby.

yeah, they come in various sizes (all of mine are cue ball sized or smaller); it might be tricky to figure out what size you're getting if you can't see it in real life beforehand.
