NERF Gun Painting & Peace Bonding?

NERF Gun Painting & Peace Bonding?

Hey Everyone!

First time DragonCon attendee here. I will be cosplaying as Arsenal from Young Justice this year, which I am incredibly excited about because I'm an amputee with a real bionic arm so the character is close to my heart.

I plan to carry a gun/cannon on my back similar to the one he carries here:

To do this, I've found a NERF Swarmfire gun, which I plan to paint completely black:

Here's my question: How much am I gonna have to deal with in trying to bring this prop gun to DragonCon? I assume it will need to be zip-tied, I'm not bringing any darts or ammo, and the batteries will not be in the gun. Will I be able to use it for my cosplay, or am I cutting it too close with their rules as it "technically" fires projectiles when batteries and ammo are present?

i think you've got the right idea.  keep the orange part, paint the rest, and then take it to security first thing and let them look at it. let them zip tie it, in fact.

I've missed a couple years so it's possible they've changed things some, but I've seen not only Nerf guns, but legitimate hunting compound bows and crossbows.  The bows were ziptied to the hilt with about a dozen bright orange zipties, but seeing as how those were actually legitimate weapons built with the original intent of ending an animals life, I don't see why an empty Nerf gun would post a problem ..
