Take 3
I have started working on designs to make my Baratheon Hammer look better. To me, it has looked like shit for a while, but priorities have stopped me from fixing it. I am not starting over, just modifying my current hammer. I am going to add some leather hand grips, a pummel, counter weight, spike on the bottom, and some decorative something to the shaft below where it meets the hammer, and I am likely going to repaint the hammer itself. Where I am stuck, is the design of any art, and materials to use.
The pummel and leather are not an issue, that is easy and I know what I want.
It is cleaning up the hammer and the art that I am stuck. I have some golden stags heads and antlers that I am planning on using but not sure about the rest. My biggest questions are materials based, what is good for covering the hammer to give it a clean smooth surface, and what can I use to add to the base of the hammer, around the shaft?
What is really bothering me with the hammer itself, is the seams and glue showing. There should be a picture attached. Scratch that, it is not letting me.
I bought some air drying clay, to, at the very least, model out any, for lack of a better term, shaft designs. No idea how it dries, if its brittle or shrinks, or cracks.
As for any decorative art, I feel like Celtic fits best, but am not sold on it. I really need to bounce ideas off people.
